The Johnson Creek School District operating referendum failed by 28 votes this past week. This was a very close margin. The School Board will reflect on this message and go back to the drawing board with regard to moving our district forward. We will continue to keep students front and center in all of our recommendations and decisions. We know there is a tremendous amount of support in our community for our schools and we are very grateful for that. We are also asking for the conversations to continue on a professional level as we navigate this budget deficit. As we said before, we cannot cut our way out of this situation.
I do want to thank everyone that helped us get referendum information out to the public. We are proud of our efforts and proud of our availability.
I will continue to host lunch with the superintendent and I have reserved Wednesday, May 1 from 11:30 –12:30 for a “SALAD with the superintendent” in the District Office conference room. It is very simple – bring your lunch in to join me to discuss whatever topic you choose, such as budgeting, scheduling, staffing, or even politics. I would appreciate it if you called to let me know you were coming so we can plan for the appropriate space. I am also willing to come to you with information. Please give me a call and let me know where and when and I will try to make it work.
