To wrap up their Discovering Habitat unit for science, Ms. Nelson's class made 3D biome models. After learning about each biome and ecosystem, each group was assigned a biome. Once students knew their biome topic they started to research the landscape, what kind of animals live there, and the plants that are able to survive in that biome. Students worked together in groups to brainstorm and create a 3D model to represent their research findings. They had to use everyday resources in order to make their creation. Some examples of items used were popsicle sticks, marshmallows, paint, paper, pipe cleaners, etc. The students are very excited and proud of their projects! The class will be having a celebration and will be sharing the projects the week of April 1st.
Elementary Student Council Spreads Christmas Cheer
The Elementary Student Council, along with their advisors Lyssa Lauersdorf and Amanda Woods, helped to make Christmas a little merrier for a local family in need. The group first raised funds at the Annual Elementary Holiday Concert by hosting a bake sale where Student Council members and their families donated baked goods and treats. A few students worked before and after their concert to sell items for 50 cents each. Before the night was over, all the items were sold and the group made $85.50.
Members of the Elementary Student Council talked about different ways they could use the money they had raised to help others. With a vote, it was decided that Student Council would adopt a local family in need through the Jefferson County Christmas Neighbors program. The group planned, shopped, and wrapped items for the family to open on Christmas as well as a provided a Christmas dinner for them to enjoy as a family.
Kindness Rocks
Students in Ms. Wagner's 4th grade have made "Kindness Rocks" and will be giving them away this week.
